Support / Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I buy Vegas Mate?
- Vegas Mate is available through the iTunes App Store.
- How often is the content updated?
- Our unofficial goal is to update content every five weeks or so.
- How do I update Vegas Mate?
- There are two types of Vegas Mate updates - features and content. Feature updates are posted through the normal iTunes App Store update process. You will be notified of content updates inside the app itself. Content updates come more frequently than feature updates.
- Where does your content come from?
- The content in Vegas Mate comes from several sources including the hotel operators (PR), the Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority's quarterly publications for the travel industry, hotel Web sites and the growing community of Las Vegas related Web sites. Beyond that, we hire freelancers to write new content, exclusively for Vegas Mate.
- I downloaded a content update in the app and now it crashes on me!
- A few customers have reported trouble with a recent content update. You can follow these instructions to get back up and running.
- What about iOS 4.0 and multitasking?
- iOS 4 and fast-app switching has been supported since Vegas Mate for iPhone 2.6.1. Future versions of Vegas Mate will drop support for iPhone OS 3.1.
- Whoa, really? I have an original iPhone or iPod Touch and I can't upgrade to 4.0!
- Yes, really. There are so many new things in 4.0, it would be holding the product back not to dive in all the way. The good news is that as of 2.6.1, the content updates are delivered separately from the feature updates. Content updates for users on 2.6.1 will continue on after we have moved the app to iOS 4.0.
- What's your background?
- We've been publishing our site, RateVegas.com, since 1998. We look forward to providing a quality experience on the iPhone into the future.
- What about the iPad?
- Vegas Mate for iPhone was designed to give you travel information on the go and for that, we think it does a great job. Vegas Mate for iPad is a tool aimed at travel planning, with many new features to be added in the future.
- I already bought the iPhone version, why do I have to pay for the iPad version?
- Vegas Mate for iPad is a separate purchase. After spending a bunch of time thinking about the best way to produce a great product, that was the course that made the most sense. Eventually, Vegas Mate for iPad will include many features not available on the iPhone. Until that time, the product will be discounted. We hope you love Vegas Mate for iPad but if you have no interest in purchasing it, the iPhone version runs just fine on the larger device.
- What about Vegas Mate for my Droid or other Android device?
- Right now Vegas Mate is only on iPhone and iPad but I get this question a lot. I have a Nexus One and it's a great phone - there's a good chance you'll see Vegas Mate on Android sometime but I don't have anything to announce yet. Watch this site for updated info.
- Does Vegas Mate work without a WiFi or cell connection? Can I use it on an airplane to plan my trip?
- Most of the features in Vegas Mate work just fine with out any connection to the Internet. The exceptions are access to the maps, photos, news, restaurant menus, and the sending and receiving of reviews to our servers - any reviews created when there is no network connection will be saved and sent when one is available. All of the other content is stored on the device and can be used in 'Airplane Mode'.
- Your rating for xyz hotel/restaurant/club/show is totally off! What gives?
- We base our ratings on a combination of factors and try to account for outliers but no rating system is perfect. We're constantly updating our records with each content update as conditions change. If you want to add your two cents, visit our ratings site, RateVegas.com.
- Some info in your database is just plain wrong. Fix it!
- We are constantly reviewing the information included in the application. Perhaps something slipped through. If you find something you think is an error, please email us.
- What do the dollar rankings mean?
- Vegas Mate has a price ranking scale from '$' to '$$$$$'. Typically, this breaks down as follows: '$' - up to $10 per person (inexpensive), '$$' - up to $20 per person (average), '$$$' - up to $30 per person (moderate), '$$$$' - up to $40 per person (pricey), '$$$$$' - $50 or more per person (very expensive). Prices are for an average meal and do not include alcohol.
- Vegas Mate crashed on me. Arghhhh.
- Ok, we spent a lot of time on testing and debugging but maybe we missed something. Please send us as much detail as you can via email.
- I'd love to see this app for other cities. Any plans?
- Maybe. The fact is that to gather all this information is a large task, not to mention keeping it up to date. For any city we tackle, we have to be convinced we can handle the job. I'd love to do a place like Macau - we'll see. If you're interested in licensing the base system to produce your own city, drop us a line.
- How do I reach you? I have questions/complaints/praise.
- Send us email - we check it all the time and respond as much as humanly possible. We want you to love Vegas Mate. Alternatively, feel free to contact us on Twitter.
